Crynodeb
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Pastoral Officer to work across a nurturing primary and nursery setting in Sunderland (SR4).
This is a vital role focused on student wellbeing, safeguarding, attendance, and family support, helping every child feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
The successful candidate will work closely with children, families, staff, and external agencies, taking a proactive and child-centred approach to pastoral care.
Location: Sunderland, SR4 excellent public transport links
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, Term Time Only (39 weeks)
Salary: £24,097 (actual salary, pro-rata)
Start date: February 2026

Key Responsibilities : Pastoral Officer
• Promote the welfare, wellbeing, and safeguarding of all children
• Provide emotional and pastoral support to pupils and families
• Support and monitor attendance, engagement, and behaviour
• Build strong, trusting relationships with children and parents/carers
• Work collaboratively with staff and multi-agency professionals
• Maintain accurate, confidential records and follow safeguarding procedures
• Contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school
• Be flexible and resourceful whilst always putting the needs of the child first
Ideal Candidate :
• Degree or equivalent qualification in social care, education or related field
• Experience of working with young children and their families
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
• Ability to handle sensitive situations calmly and confidently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise competing demands
• GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C / Level 2 in English and Maths
• Right to work in the UK
