Job title: Temporary Personal assistant
Location: Llandre area, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion
Hours of work:Up to 9 hours per week, up to 3 hours Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
Rate of pay: £15.00 per hour

Introduction:

I am looking for a temporary personal assistant to support me to access and enjoy recreational activities, whether it is helping me free run my guide dog, attend a local, friendly walking group, taking me horse-riding, occasional shopping or other activities.

I have a sight impairment so am aided by my guide dog Abbi. You therefore MUST be comfortable around dogs and be happy for her to accompany us when going out and about. It is essential you hold a full driving licence and access to a vehicle. You are required to wear a face mask when in close proximity to me in enclosed spaces e.g. in the car.

I ideally need someone with a valid DBS as soon as possible

Main Duties:
To be alert and protect me from potential hazards due to my lack of vision.
To pick me up and transport to meet a local friendship and walking group.
To accompany me on walks, some of these involve hill-walking.
To describe people, locations, scenery etc., read aloud written material and where required, make written notes.
To ensure I am maintaining regular fluids; I have an underlying medical condition so keeping my fluid intake up is essential.
To recognise if I am having an allergic reaction to the environment and prompt me to take antihistamine tablets.
To guide me to Public Conveniences and guide me in the cubicle if it is one I am unfamiliar with.
To carry out any other reasonable requests that I or my family may make from time to time.

Be reliable, punctual, trustworthy and friendly
Be aware of and respect the confidential nature of the work
Be able to work flexibly to suit the employer
To respect, where appropriate, the independence of the employer
Be able to develop and maintain a supportive relationship
Be able to instil confidence in your employer with regard to engaging in leisure and recreational activities
Be able to use your initiative by offering your own suggestions and ideas regarding activities, places to visit etc.
Have good communication skills
Must be a non-smoker
A full driving license and use of a car is essential. You must have appropriate car insurance for using your car for work.
Must be willing to undertake training as required.

Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
