Summary

CAD/CAM Engineer / Programmer

Pay: Up to £18 per hour (depending on experience)

An established manufacturing business is currently seeking a motivated CAD/CAM Engineer / Programmer to support its CNC manufacturing operations. This role involves developing accurate and efficient CNC programs, models, and tooling strategies, working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure parts are manufactured safely, on time, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
Create, develop, and optimise CAD models and CAM programs for CNC machining operations

Generate toolpaths, workholding strategies, and setup sheets for production

Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications

Support new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement activities

Collaborate with machinists and operators to prove out programs and resolve shop-floor issues

Select cutting tools, speeds/feeds, and machining strategies to maximise quality and efficiency

Maintain revision control of programs, models, and documentation

Contribute to cost reduction, cycle time improvement, and scrap reduction initiatives

Support root cause analysis for dimensional or quality issues

Ensure all work complies with company procedures and relevant industry standards

Skills & Experience
Experience in a CAD/CAM programming role within a manufacturing environment (CNC milling and/or turning)

Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, and workholding

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T

Experience creating 3D models and generating toolpaths for complex components

Experience using CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360, or alternative platforms (e.g. Mastercam, Edgecam, Hypermill, SolidCAM)

Familiarity with post-processors and G-code verification

Practical, problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Qualifications (Preferred, Not Essential)
Qualification in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline

Apprenticeship or time-served background in machining

Experience within precision engineering, aerospace, automotive, medical, or similar sectors
