SEMH Teacher – Specialist SEMH School, West Drayton (Ages 11–19)

About the Role

A specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in West Drayton is seeking a compassionate, resilient, and skilled Teacher to join its dedicated team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives on making a meaningful difference to the lives of young people with additional behavioural, emotional, and social needs.

Our students have often faced permanent exclusion from mainstream schools and may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, social interaction, and mental well-being. These challenges can arise from a variety of experiences, including trauma, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, attachment disorders, or other neurodivergent profiles.

What SEMH Means in Practice

Children with SEMH needs may struggle with:

Emotional regulation (e.g., sudden anger, sadness, or withdrawal)

Building and maintaining relationships

Trusting adults and peers

Coping with structure or academic pressure

Communicating their needs effectively

Key Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the needs of pupils with SEMH profiles

Build positive, trusting relationships that support student wellbeing and progress

Implement personalised behaviour strategies consistently and empathetically

Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including behaviour specialists and therapists

Monitor and report on academic, social, and emotional progress

Contribute to individual support plans and review meetings

Promote an inclusive, nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported

About You

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or relevant teaching qualification

Experience working with SEMH pupils or within specialist provision is desirable but not essential

Strong behaviour management skills grounded in empathy, consistency, and trauma-informed practice

Ability to differentiate effectively and adapt to diverse learning needs

Reflective, patient, and resilient approach with a commitment to safeguarding

Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team

What the School Offers

A caring, supportive, and highly skilled staff team

Small class sizes with additional support staff

Ongoing CPD, including SEMH and trauma-informed training

A therapeutic, child-centred approach to education

Opportunities for career development within specialist education
