A family in Harpenden is seeking a caring, trustworthy and experienced Female Carer to support their 8-year-old son with additional needs. He has global developmental delay, is non-verbal, incontinent, has epilepsy and is PEG fed. His seizures are well managed with medication and he has had only one seizure in the last four years.
He is mobile and generally a happy child who enjoys going for walks, being out in the community and watching cars go by. The role involves providing consistent, compassionate 1:1 support to meet his personal care and daily support needs in a safe and nurturing way.
Hours and rate of pay
Term time: 6 hours per week
School holidays: 6 hours per week
Rate of pay: £20 per hour
Location Hertfordshire (AL5)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check
Right to Work and references will be needed.
Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
• Safeguarding Adults
• Introduction to first aid
• Health and Safety / Moving and handling
What you would be doing:
Providing 1:1 support to an 8-year-old child with complex needs
Supporting with all personal care, including:
• PEG feeding
• Changing pads
• Bathing
• Dressing and undressing
Taking him out into the community for walks, which he greatly enjoys
Reading to him and engaging in gentle play and interaction
Supporting his safety, comfort and wellbeing at all times
Required skills and experience:
Female PA required
Experience working with children or adults with additional/special needs
Experience with PEG feeding is not required, but training can be provided
Understanding of epilepsy and confidence in supporting someone with medical needs
Must be able to drive
Patient, empathetic, caring and reliable
Able to understand and respond to the complex needs of an individual with additional needs
