Are you passionate about responsible wildlife management, biodiversity, and working across a diverse rural estate? We’re looking for an experienced Wildlife Manager to take the lead on deer and mammal management across our Derbyshire estate, balancing conservation, forestry protection, and high welfare standards.This is a varied, hands-on role at the heart of the estate, working closely with forestry, farming, sporting, and landscape teams to ensure thriving habitats, successful crop and tree establishment, and a coordinated approach to wildlife management.The RoleAs Wildlife Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the management and control of wild and park deer and other mammals, ensuring crop damage is minimised while biodiversity is enhanced. You’ll be a visible champion of health and safety and a key collaborator across departments and with external partners.Your key responsibilities will include:Lead all deer management across the estate, including surveys, monitoring and cull deliveryAssess and control deer and mammal impacts in line with Countryside Stewardship requirementsAgree and deliver annual cull targets with the Head of ForestryEnsure venison handling and larder standards meet BQWV and game dealer requirements, maximising carcass value.Work closely with tenants, neighbours and internal teams to deliver safe, coordinated wildlife managementSupport squirrel control, forestry operations and respond to wildlife incidents as requiredManage budgets and oversee deer fencing and boundary maintenance programmesThis is a full-time role on an annualised contract, accommodation and a work vehicle will be provided (if needed).About YouYou’ll be an experienced deer manager with a strong understanding of estate-scale wildlife management and the confidence to work collaboratively across teams.You will have a proven track record of deer management and hold a DMQ Deer Stalker Certificates Levels 1 and 2, with a current police firearms certificate and full UK driving licence.Please see attached job description for further information.In returnAs part of the wider Devonshire Group, owned by the Duke of Devonshire, which includes Chatsworth, Bolton Abbey, Lismore and the Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants Group, we are committed to ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of our staff and as such offer fantastic benefits which include: https://devonshiregroup.co.uk/work-with-us/vacancies/Our core values include “Being Inclusive” and we particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates who are currently under-represented.
