Summary
The Plastic Surgery department is seeking to recruit a Microvascular Registrar to work as part of the team providing microvascular reconstruction to a broad range of patients. Applications are invited from all suitably qualified Plastic Surgery Registrars; in relation to training this post would be viewed as an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) and would not provide a new NTN. It is envisaged that a Senior SpR with a specialist interest in cancer reconstruction and microvascular surgery will apply.
The registrar is responsible for daily review of elective inpatients. The registrar will join their respective trainer in the elective outpatients, elective theatre lists and ward rounds. There is a fixed commitment of an on-call rota. Between these clinical duties, there is dedicated time allocated for administrative duties, teaching and departmental research. There is a weekly training meeting.
The registrar will typically be involved in two microsurgical breast reconstructions every week, operating as the primary registrar for at least one of these operations. The registrar will also be involved in an average of two other major reconstruction cases a month. These will vary and include skin, sarcoma or perineal reconstruction. There may also be the opportunity to gain experience in lymphovascular supermicrosurgery.
The registrar will participate in the fortnightly breast oncoplastic MDT meeting and have the opportunity to attend sarcoma and skin cancer MDT meetings according to their own personal interests.
