For full job description, please see attached supporting documents. JOB SUMMARY The Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHST) sit at Tier 2 of the getting help aspect of the Thrive model. The team has 3 core functions: 1) To deliver evidence based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties; 2) To support schools to develop their whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing; and 3) To provide timely advice to school and college staff to ensure that young people get the right support at the right time. The post holder will work in the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to primarily clinically supervise Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP)s with developing their clinical practice, psychological formulation and school engagement in line with their postgraduate diploma in education mental health practice. The post holder will also be expected to provide Case Management and Clinical Skills Supervision to a number of Mental Health Practiioners (MHP)s and EMHPs within the service. They will also work closely with other services to ensure services are working closely to meet the needs of young people. The post holder will be part of the Clinical Senior Leadership Team (CSLT) and be a keen contributer in clinical governance, service development, service evaluation and adaptive to change in a ever-growing service. MHSTs are delivered through a partnership involving CAMHS (South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust) as the lead provider and the local authority as wrap around services. KEY RESULT AREAS: The postholder will: 1.1 Care/service/function provision: The post holder will be expected to supervise trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners and Children's Wellbeing Practitioners as a core responsibility. Attend and fulfil the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic and practice based assessments. This would include reviewing videos and case reports of the trainee EMHPs where appropriate. Support EMHP staff in the co-delivery of training sessions. This will include; attendance at practice skills sessions, involvement in formative feedback sessions with teaching staff, and co-production of elements of the curriculum To perform all aspects of the role in accordance with Trust policies and other national bodies. To work with a small caseload of service users, providing assessment, care planning and care delivery for service users with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, in schools. This will include the provision of highly skilled professional care, psychological interventions, group work, clinical assessment, risk assessments / risk management, and promoting recovery and inclusion and ensuring co-production with service users, families and carers and the education staff. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group. To act at all times in accordance with the respective professional Code of Conduct, Trust Policies and occupational protocols. To contribute to the development and provision of services to children and young people To provide specialist advice to other members of staff and trainees and act as a role model. To liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies in the implementation of patient care. To ensure that care activities are research based and in keeping with changes in the field of activity. To contribute to the development of ideas and innovative practice and propose changes to protocols and procedures within the mental health support team and CAMHS where required. To initiate and participate in departmental audit as requested by the Team Manager. To support embedding a research culture within the service and has an ongoing commitment to developing practice through research within the team. To support in the evaluation of the service and service development tasks using appropriate audit, evaluation and research tools. 1.2 Working as part of a Team: Lead/contribute gathering qualitative and quantitative feedback for service development making suggestions. Share clinical skills and knowledge and support the development of others As part of a team, deliver person centred care whilst meeting the service standards and objectives. Provide and receive service user information using tact, reassurance, empathy and persuasive skills as required. Act within the 8 principles of the Data Protection Act 1988. Contribute to department/team meetings offering suggestions for quality improvement. Actively engage in good team working to facilitate effective relationships with all health professionals. Maintain strong working relationships and communication links with the team and others in achieving/improving service/quality standards. Comply with corporate governance structures in keeping with the principles and standards set out by the Trust. Engage with external partners/stake holders (e.g. service users, health care professionals, representative bodies) To support the Team Manager in the service development and evaluation of the MHSTs at a national level. To collaborate with other MHSTs to ensure the consistency of working across the geography.
