The Nursing Home Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role plays a vital part in infection control and resident comfort by ensuring all areas of the facility meet health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces
Disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, handrails, light switches, call buttons, etc.)
Empty trash and dispose of waste according to facility and health regulations
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
Refill cleaning and hygiene supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper)
Follow infection control and cross-contamination prevention procedures
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly
Report maintenance issues, spills, or safety hazards promptly
Respect resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
Work cooperatively with nursing, maintenance, and administrative staff
Qualifications & Skills
Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience preferred (healthcare setting a plus)
Knowledge of cleaning products, disinfectants, and proper sanitation methods
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Attention to detail and strong time-management skills
Compassionate, respectful attitude toward elderly residents
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
Lift and carry up to [X] lbs (e.g., 25–50 lbs)
Perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift
Work Environment
Healthcare/long-term care facility
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazards (with proper PPE provided)
May require weekends, holidays, or evening shifts
