Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal Practice
Location: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Profit Share | No Weekends | 4-Day Week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to step into a Lead Vet role at a proudly independent small animal practice based in the large market town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
This well-established practice offers the perfect balance of career progression, clinical freedom, and quality of life, with excellent access to Sherwood Forest, local markets, sports centres, and a town rich in history and amenities.
The Role
The practice is seeking a confident, self-sufficient Veterinary Surgeon to take on a sole charge lead position, supported by a friendly and capable team of 2 RVNs and 1 SVN. This role is ideal for a vet who enjoys autonomy, leadership, and the opportunity to help drive the business forward.
While there is strong business and strategic support from two Clinical Directors, the successful candidate will be comfortable managing cases independently and leading the clinical standards within the practice.
There are excellent future partnership opportunities available for the right individual.

• Fully equipped theatre and prep room
• Ultrasound
• Dental X-ray
• CR X-ray
• Separate dog and cat wards
• ISFM-approved cat kennels
• Isolation room
• Full surgical capability (excluding orthopaedics – with scope to add for the right vet)
This is a fantastic environment for a vet who wants to practice high-quality medicine with the tools to do so.
Working Pattern & Rota
• 4-day working week
• 8:30am – 7:00pm shifts
• No weekends
• Optional out-of-hours at the main branch
• OOH work is paid with bonuses on a case-by-case basis
Candidate Requirements
• RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Proven experience within small animal general practice
• Confident working in sole charge
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Commercially minded with a desire to grow and develop the practice
Salary & Benefits Package
• Superb salary up to £65,000
• Opportunity for salary tie-ins linked to practice performance
• Profit share scheme
• RCVS, VDS, plus one additional professional membership paid
• CPD allowance of £1,000 + 5 paid CPD days
• Certificate support encouraged
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
• Paid birthday leave
Why Apply?
This is a rare opportunity to join an independent veterinary practice in a leadership role with genuine autonomy, long-term progression, and partnership prospects—all while enjoying a work-life balance with no weekends.
