Summary
Grounds Assistant - To Start March 2026Edgbaston, Birmingham
Actual Salary: £27,354 - £28,526 per annum dependent on experience, skills and qualifications, pro rata for part time.
6 weeks paid annual leave plus paid bank holidays and 3 paid concessionary days over Christmas (pro rata for part-time).
The Role:We are recruiting for an enthusiastic, flexible and proactive Grounds Assistant, with relevant experience of general grounds maintenance, gardening, and ideally the upkeep of sports pitches (although this is not essential). Supporting the School’s aesthetic plans for the site the successful individual will have an excellent eye for detail and enjoy working outdoors.
Working collaboratively with the wider Estates and Grounds Team, we are looking for a supportive and positive team player who is able to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision when undertaking daily tasks. The role will involve general garden maintenance (including pruning, mowing, leaf blowing and weeding) as well as providing support to the wider Estates team with maintenance duties as required.
The Person:Key skills, experience and qualities required to be the Grounds AssistantPrevious experience in similar role with transferable skills.
An eye for detail and demonstrable creative flair in relation to landscaping gardening and horticulture.
Collaborative team player
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to work outside in all weathers.
Experienced in basic maintenance of equipment and machinery.
Demonstrates high levels of time management and initiative to manage own workload
Basic IT skills Desirable:
Experience of working within an independent school environment or similar high profile estate.
Experience of working with grounds and sports pitches including turf knowledge, ground/sports turf machinery and pitch marking
Advanced plant and tree knowledge
