The Opportunity:

SRUC is seeking a dedicated Teaching Instructor in Livestock Handling and Management to deliver high‑quality, hands‑on practical instruction to students across a range of veterinary and animal-related programmes. Working between the Ferguson Building and the School’s practical teaching facilities, you will play a vital role in developing students’ practical competencies, ensuring they gain the skills and confidence needed for academic success and future careers within the veterinary, animal health and rural sectors. This role will work closely with academic staff to deliver core skills training in cattle, sheep and horses, as well as working with the Large Animal Technician to ensure appropriate care and management of these animal groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical and classroom-based teaching within the livestock units at Sunnybrae Farm.
  • Support accredited and work-based training programmes within the School.
  • Provide demonstrations, guided practice and learner support.
  • Prepare and maintain teaching resources and practical materials.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist with assessments, marking and record‑keeping.
  • Assist with the management and care of the teaching animals alongside the Large Animal Technician and Clinical Skills Team
  • Participate in the out of hours rota providing care for the teaching animals outside of teaching times.
  • Drive farm machinery and minibuses as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The successful candidate will be educated to at least HND level SCQF Level 8 in a relevant discipline or have equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
