Description
We are seeking a caring and reliable Personal Assistant to support a non-verbal adult male with complex needs and learning disabilities. The role involves providing personal care and supporting him to access activities both at home and within the community.
A medical background would be desirable, as the client has diabetes and other health conditions; however, full training will be provided, including support with monitoring blood sugar levels.
“I really love painting, drawing, and doing puzzles. I enjoy sitting with people to create arts and crafts and feel very proud of everything I make. I love all kinds of music and watching TV - especially comedies that make me laugh! I also enjoy going to the cinema and theatre to watch musicals and pantomimes. I sometimes struggle with anxiety and need reassurance and support when this happens. I have a great sense of humour!”
You will need to be patient, confident, and approachable, with excellent communication skills and good attention to detail. Experience supporting adults with disabilities in everyday life would be an advantage.
The role includes transporting the client from his home to day service activities in and around the Ashford area, so access to your own vehicle is essential. Some mileage will be paid. You may also need to support the client with his wheelchair on occasions.
The client currently works with another Personal Assistant, and they have built a positive and trusting relationship. He is very family-oriented and lives with his extended family in a peaceful rural location. His family are supportive and actively involved in his day-to-day life.
This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
