Communication To demonstrate high-level communication skills. To utilise highly developed interpersonal skills including specific skills to facilitate effective communication when there are barriers to understanding e.g. sensory or cognitive impairment or in a hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive situation. To establish and maintain robust communication networks with clients, carers, and other health care workers and numerous external agencies. To establish and maintain good working relationships with GPs, GP commissioners and relevant consortia. To promote awareness of the role of EIT within local service area/team, GP practices and the wider community. Clinical To complete specialist assessments for referred service users accepted into the service when required. Be a full member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). To maintain a high standard of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with relevant professional code of practice and Trust policies and procedures. To have knowledge of and contribute to the team adherence to the NHS England Access and Waiting Time Standards for EIP. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide advice to other professionals on acute and chronic aspects of risk assessment and risk management. To liaise professionally and sensitively with other involved parties to provide seamless and consistent high-quality care for service users under care of the team. This includes, but is not limited to; carers, families, internal and external colleagues, and voluntary services as appropriate. To hold and manage a caseload of service users who have been identified as experiencing their first episode of psychosis, including care planning and delivering psychosocial interventions. To have a good knowledge of the required documentation for case management, and to ensure compliance with any associated performance standards. To undertake and record comprehensive risk assessment, devise and implement risk assessment plans for service users at risk of vulnerability, self-harm, self-neglect, or risk of physical, sexual, emotional harm to others, using the CRASP risk assessment tool. To be aware of and adhere to responsibilities for people under CPA, including offering/arranging carers support. To be aware of and adhere to the NICE guidelines for first episode psychosis. To manage discharges from the service and transfers to other services as appropriate for service users who have reached the end of their time with the service. To work as part of our integrated MDT, and to participate in a clinical decision-making process to determine the most appropriate management plans for all service users who are under the care of the team. To provide advice, guidance and consultation to peer and junior professionals within the service, both individually, and by attendance at team referral and review meetings. To participate in the duty/assessment rota operated by the Early Intervention Team. Teaching, training and supervision The post holder will receive regular clinical and managerial supervision. The post holder is expected to remain informed of current research and guidance in the field, to support own professional work and to contribute related knowledge to the MDT. The post holder will take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn in line with NHS core competencies, including full participation in appraisal and supervision, and acting as role model for self-development. General To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice across the service, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of Early Intervention for Psychosis. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
