Communicate sensitively and inclusively with families who have experienced loss, keeping them informed throughout the PMRT process. Work alongside the Bereavement Midwife to support listening to the familys voice and ensure it is represented at each Perinatal Mortality Review. Facilitate the design, production and prioritisation of any action plans and work programmes to ensure learning and improvement Work closely with the maternity governance team and the specialist bereavement midwife to support and facilitate the PMRT process Lead on the complete management of each case which fits the criteria for PMRT Ensure maintenance of and compliance with PRMT recommendations. Collate and present comprehensive timelines of events to be used to review individual cases Manage your own time effectively and be able to prioritise to meet deadlines Lead the monthly PMRT Meetings, ensuring a quorate meeting of both internal and external reviewers. Take part in external PMRT reviews for trusts within the LMNS. To support the PMRT process in line with the National recommendations and the Trust Risk management Strategy Monthly reporting to the care group clinical governance meeting and Quarterly PMRT Reporting to the Maternity and Neonatal Board Lead on standards for compliance for CNST Safety Action 1 Work cohesively with the Consultant PMRT Lead Report on the outcomes and improvements of the process External surveillance reporting to MBRRACE via SPEN Support MDT training relating to PMRT and learning outcomes Lead on the complete management of each case which fits the criteria of PMRT and the maintenance of and compliance with the PRMT recommendations. Lead the divisional team in developing a planned programme of work to achieve the recommendations, including formulating and updating of project plans Work with managers and staff in the care group to effectively identify and manage risk in relation to findings from PMRT and/or external reviews. Lead in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines related to PRMT in line with national recommendations and ensuring they follow the correct procedure for ratification. Act as a resource for all professionals, and outside agencies in respect of concerns and queries related to perinatal mortality and/or reviews by external agencies. To support and implement current national policies or guidance in relation to perinatal mortality reviews As part of all specialist roles there will be a requirement to work clinically to meet the needs of the service. Leadership Provide credible role modelling and expertise to nurses/midwives/AHPs in relation to PMRT Work collaboratively to support delivery of nursing/ maternity /AHP strategy. Actively involves others in communications between patients, their families and the multi-professional team, supporting excellent communication at all times. Work collaboratively with patient forums and multi-disciplinary team to develop practice to meet the needs of the local population and support the strategic direction of the service. Is actively involved in monitoring standards of care and feedback from patients, their families and carers. Acts as a nursing/midwifery/AHP advocate and provides expert advice to patients, families and carers. Utilises evidence based clinical practice contributing to service development and pathways of care. Personal / Professional Development Update and extend knowledge and skills in order to develop professionally Accept responsibility for own professional development and updating, including annual mandatory updating Maintain professional / clinical competence Take responsibility for ensuring that own annual appraisal is performed Participate in relevant training, as required Develop own leadership / managerial skills to ensure an evidence based, dynamic and innovative approach to Perinatal Mortality Reviews Professional responsibilities Comply with NMC standards of professional practice / conduct Comply with standard requirements for revalidation and maintaining active professional registration To act as an ambassador for the Trust in professional and public settings Work within locally agreed policies and procedures Participate in the development of clinical governance initiatives in conjunction with the Line manager and monitor implementation and performance Work within the philosophies / guidelines of current professional documents / reports, plus any future initiatives Training and education Identify training needs, develop and participate in the training of midwives, obstetricians and support staff. On occasion participating in multi-professional training for health visitors, GPs and other agencies if required Participate in the preceptorship period for new / newly qualified staff Facilitate a conducive environment for all learners e.g. students, midwifery colleagues Competencies Disseminate knowledge and use to support colleagues and to inform service development Demonstrate excellent communication skills Develop excellent leadership skills Audit Contribute to the audit process, enabling the achievement of quality standards within the clinical area. Collate, analyse and report on information related to improving and upholding patient safety. Use to highlight service gaps and make recommendations for improvements Audit compliance with guidelines related to patient safety, ensuring that full audit cycle is completed Contribute to the development of clinical policies and guidelines Clinical Maintain competence in clinical midwifery skills Contribute to the development of multiagency plans of care
