JOB PROFILE - Senior Support Worker (D)

Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Location: Head Office

Responsible to: Support Officer

Hours of work:

37 hours per week on a shift rota basis including alternate weekend working. Flexibility on working all shifts will be required to meet the needs of the service users. One ‘sleep-in’ per week with additional sleep-ins when requested to accommodate service users’ needs.

Job purpose:

To provide high-quality, person-centred support that enables autistic people and others with diverse support needs to live fulfilling lives. The role focuses on promoting independence, choice, well-being, and inclusion, while recognising and celebrating each individual’s strengths, preferences, and aspirations.


Job Specification:

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).

• Up-to-date mandatory training and commitment to ongoing professional development.

• Experience in supporting autistic people or individuals with diverse support needs, using strengths-based and person-centred approaches.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different communication styles and preferences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with the Deputy Manager and colleagues to ensure a consistent, person-centred approach that reflects each individual’s strengths, preferences, and goals.

• Act as a key worker, building trusting relationships with the people we support, their families, and professionals, ensuring their voices guide all decisions.

• Support individuals and families to co-create meaningful daily routines, activities, and life plans that promote independence, well-being, and inclusion.

• Ensure all staff understand and follow agreed approaches and strategies, maintaining consistency while adapting flexibly to individual needs.

• Facilitate workshops to strengthen staff understanding of neurodiversity and enhance on active support approach.

• Promote a “do with, not for” philosophy, encouraging skill development and independence at each person’s pace.

• Provide personal care where required, always respecting dignity, privacy, and choice.

• Use structured and evidence-based support methods (e.g., visual supports, TEACCH strategies, or other tools chosen with the individual) to create predictability and reduce anxiety.

• Model high standards of practice and values-led care, acting as a role model for colleagues.

• Support the induction, supervision, and training of new staff, ensuring they understand and embrace the active support philosophy.

• Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission standards: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led.

• Maintain accurate, respectful, and professional records, including care notes, financial documentation, and risk assessments.

• Support individuals to access their communities, enjoy day trips, and plan / go on holidays, ensuring activities reflect their interests and choices.

• Participate in handovers, team meetings, and service user meetings, ensuring clear communication and follow-up of actions.

• Safeguard confidentiality and comply with data protection legislation at all times.

• Uphold KTM Care’s values in all professional relationships, representing the organisation positively with families, colleagues, and external agencies.

• Remain flexible and open to undertaking additional duties within the scope of the role, always guided by the needs and aspirations of the people we support.

• Attend all necessary training courses as required and be actively involved in your continued professional development.
