School Caretaker – SEN School
Location: Ealing, West London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are currently working on behalf of a specialist SEN school in the London Borough of Ealing to recruit a reliable, proactive, and experienced School Caretaker to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established SEN setting, supporting the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of the school site. The role is central to maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
The Role
As School Caretaker, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day care, security, and maintenance of the school premises. You will work closely with senior leaders and school staff to ensure the site is safe, clean, and fully operational at all times.
Due to the nature of the setting, the school is seeking a candidate who is calm, dependable, and understands the importance of safeguarding within an SEN environment.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Opening and securing the school site each day
Ensuring the security and safety of the school buildings and grounds
Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and basic DIY tasks
Monitoring health and safety compliance across the site
Completing regular checks on fire alarms, emergency lighting, and safety equipment
Liaising with contractors and supervising works on site
Managing deliveries and ensuring safe storage of equipment
Maintaining outdoor areas, including playgrounds and entrances
Supporting room setup and site requirements as needed
Identifying and reporting maintenance issues promptly
Supporting the operational needs of a busy SEN school
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Previous experience in a caretaker, site supervisor, or facilities role
Practical maintenance and DIY skills
Strong awareness of health and safety procedures
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Reliable, punctual, and well organised
Strong communication skills
A professional and flexible approach to work
Desirable:
Experience working within a school or SEN setting
Knowledge of safeguarding requirements in education
Experience liaising with contractors or external service providers
Safeguarding & Compliance
The successful candidate will be required to hold, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check, along with satisfactory references and relevant pre-employment checks. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
