This role provides centralised technical leadership, robust governance, and subject matter expertise, ensuring modern, risk-based standards are consistently upheld.

As the SME, you will create guidance, shape policy, and help modernise processes across a high-volume, low-hazard technical environment.

Strengthen national compliance, technical standards, and governance frameworks.

Act as Subject Matter Expert, developing guidance, policies, and safe systems of work.

Support operational teams in delivering risk-appropriate, modernised mechanical and confined space practices.

Offer technical oversight and governance for higher-risk engineering activities.

Drive continuous improvement in how ISS delivers Mechanical and Confined Space services.

Conduct occasional site visits to act as Authorising Engineer (small portion of role).

Report directly to the Assurance Director and collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

HNC or above in Mechanical Engineering.

Mechanical AP training completed.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, confined space operations, statutory compliance, and risk-based governance.

Experience working in multi-disciplinary technical environments.

A collaborative, confident technical leader with strong communication, coaching, and change-management abilities.

UK Driving Licence (required for 1–2 weekly client site visits).
