What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an inspiring and forward-thinking Head of Design and Technology to lead our thriving department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to shape the future of D&T, Engineering, and Hospitality & Catering in a well-resourced, high-performing faculty.
As Head of Department, you will be responsible for:
• Strategic leadership and management of the Design & Technology faculty
• Deployment and coordination of staff across D&T, Food, and Engineering
• Curriculum design and development
• Driving improvements in teaching, learning, and student outcomes
• Teaching Design and Technology (Product Design focus) and/or Engineering Design up to KS4
• Leading a team of three experienced teachers, a Food Technician, and a D&T/Engineering Technician
• Supporting whole-school improvement through collaboration with senior leaders
• Acting as a reviewer in the school’s Appraisal process
• Mentoring and coaching staff to build capacity and improve provision
• Ensure effective communication within the department through line management and regular meetings, enabling staff to share ideas and concerns
Our Design and Technology faculty is a flagship department within the school, consistently achieving outstanding KS4 results. Courses offered include:
• GCSE Design & Technology
• OCR Cambridge Nationals in Engineering Design
• WJEC Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering
Facilities include:
• Laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC milling machine, dye-sublimation printer, vinyl cutter
• Welding and brazing torches
• A newly built workshop and refurbished catering classroom
• Two additional workshops, two computer suites, and a textiles room
