Kirkley Hall CampusNorthumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region
Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.
About the CandidateWe are looking for a proactive and reliable individual with strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach to estate management. The ideal candidate will be a team player who can motivate and support colleagues, while also taking responsibility for ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard. Good communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills are essential, as is a flexible approach to work in a busy and varied environment. We want someone who demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to high-quality service.
This person will play a vital role in shaping the day-to-day environment for staff, students, and visitors across our campuses. By leading by example, finding better ways of working, and supporting their team to deliver safe, well-maintained, and welcoming spaces, they will help create an environment where people can thrive and succeed.
About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and competent individual to join our busy Estates Team, responsible for the day-to-day operation of our Ashington campus. This role offers a great opportunity to take ownership of a team, make a positive impact on how our estates function, and play a key part in delivering an excellent service to our college community. You’ll gain experience working across a varied estate, develop leadership and people management skills, and have access to training and development opportunities in health and safety, compliance, and facilities management.
Role Responsibilities
- Leading, supervising, and supporting a team of Estate Technicians
- Managing contractors and suppliers to ensure work is completed safely and to standard
- Opening and securing sites as required
- Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance across the estate
- Ensuring completion of planned preventative maintenance schedules
- Setting up furniture, moving equipment, and maintaining site presentation including removal of litter and waste
Qualifications
- A valid driving licence
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in estates, facilities, or a similar maintenance environment
- Experience of supervising or leading a small team
- Confident use of hand tools and carrying out basic repairs
- Manual handling capability
- Good record keeping and communication skills
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple campuses
Desirable Skills & Experience – (Optional)
- Experience of working at height
- First Aid at Work qualification
- IOSH or other relevant health & safety training/experience
- Basic trade skills (plumbing, joinery, painting, electrical isolation)
