Grade 7 - £29,540 - £33,699 per annum

Full Time – 37 hours per week

Hybrid/ In Office as required – Hastings, East Sussex

Are you an experienced fraud Officer with a good understanding of Revenues and Benefits Service? Do you have an eye for details and a passion for ensuring accuracy in financial investigation? If so, we want to hear from you.

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Revenues and Benefits team at Hastings Borough Council.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures relating to Housing Benefits, Business Rates, and Council Tax Reduction. You will investigate discrepancies, review all reductions, discounts, and exemptions to ensure that they are granted correctly, where incorrect, the reductions, discounts and exemptions are removed or reduced accordingly and where appropriate penalties are imposed in line with policies and legislation. To review all fraud referrals within Revenues and Benefits team for veracity and decide whether these should be pursued. Collate and prepare Benefit Fraud Referrals for further investigation and prosecution for the DWP and to review National Fraud Initiative data matching exercise.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a Council Tax or a Benefits Section and have knowledge of Council Tax and Welfare Benefits Law and Procedures. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and an effective team player, with excellent customer care and communication skills.
