About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic English Lead to provide strategic leadership for language and communication across Papworth Hall School. Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will shape an ambitious, inclusive English curriculum that develops pupils’ literacy, communication, and wider personal skills.
In this role, you will:
Lead and develop the English curriculum to ensure clear progression and high standards
Promote a positive culture for teaching English, supporting and developing staff expertise
Use assessment data to monitor progress, identify underachievement, and implement effective interventions
Ensure accurate assessment, recording, and reporting to support pupil achievement
Line manage and support staff through appraisal, coaching, and professional development
Collaborate with the SENCO and SLT to ensure provision meets the needs of all learners
Manage subject resources effectively and contribute to whole-school improvement planning
This role is ideal for an experienced English practitioner with strong leadership skills and a passion for improving outcomes in language and communication.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
Qualified: UK QTS (or equivalent) with a relevant degree
Experienced: Strong understanding of SEN, including ASC, learning difficulties, and complex needs
Compassionate & Resilient: Able to build trusting relationships with pupils who may have faced significant challenges
Collaborative: A clear communicator who thrives in a team environment
Creative & Flexible: Able to adapt and innovate to meet individual needs

Papworth Hall School is a specialist school in the picturesque village of Papworth, Cambridgeshire, for autistic children and young people aged 5–16 with complex communication, learning, and emotional needs. Set in a beautifully transformed Grade II listed building, the school provides a safe, nurturing environment where pupils follow a personalised, autism-specific curriculum. Learning focuses on communication, social, emotional, and life skills, helping pupils access the wider world safely and confidently.
