At Dimensions, every day is a chance to make a real difference. As a Support Worker in Darlington, you'll bring purpose and stability to someone's life - helping an autistic man enjoy the routines and moments that matter most to him. Recognised as a Great Place to Work for seven years running, we'll support you to grow, feel valued, and take pride in the difference you make every single day.
You'll be supporting a friendly young man in his early twenties who has a great sense of humour and really values spending time with people he knows and trusts. Building a calm, reassuring relationship is important, and he thrives when you take part in activities with him rather than just alongside him.
Once you get to know him, you'll see how much joy he gets from his varied interests, which include:
- Creative activities and crafts
- Music, singing, and musicals
- Live shows and pantomimes
- Baking and trying new recipes
- Going for walks
- Playing football
- Swimming
- Relaxing with his favourite TV soaps
He is autistic and has a learning disability, and with the right support he lives independently in his own home. Your role will help him stay safe, feel emotionally supported, and continue building confidence in everyday life.
At times, he may need reassurance during moments of distress, and you'll be there to offer calm, thoughtful support. You won't be expected to do this alone — full Positive Behaviour Support training is provided, so you'll feel confident and supported in your role.
Previous experience in care is preferred, but just as important is having the right attitude. A full UK manual driving licence is desirable to help him access the community and enjoy his activities.
If you're energetic, confident, patient, and able to use your initiative, you'll be a fantastic fit for both him and the wider team.
You'll empower him to live life on his terms — supporting him to make choices, express himself, and work towards his personal goals.
Your support will include:
- Medication administration
- Budgeting and money management
- Prompting and support with meal planning, cooking, and baking
- Help with household tasks such as cleaning and laundry
- Identifying and enjoying opportunities out in the community, from activities and hobbies to everyday outings
Every day is different, and you'll be helping to make each day meaningful and enjoyable.
