I’m Dan, and I’ve been working closely with primary and schools for the past two years, supporting them with their recruitment needs. I’m currently working with a primary school in Colchester who are looking to appoint a long-term supply Year 1 Teacher to start as soon as possible. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, running until 17/07/2026.
The Year 1 Teacher role involves full class responsibility, including planning and delivering engaging lessons, managing behaviour, assessing progress and supporting pupils’ social and emotional development. You will be expected to carry out the full responsibilities of a class teacher, including attending staff meetings, marking books, completing assessments, attending parents’ evenings and communicating effectively with parents and carers. Working hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm.
The successful Year 1 Teacher will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
SEMH knowledge or experience is desirable, but not essential
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
Commitment to a long-term role and being part of the wider school team
Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one
