The postholder alongside Deputy Director colleagues will as required provide a full deputising role to the Director of Estates and Facilities (DoEF) covering all Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) functions inclusive of Hard and Soft FM, Capital, Property, Risk, Statutory Compliance, estate strategy programme, business and commercial services, Health and Safety, Risk Management, Resilience and Fire Risk Management.



Specific responsibilities will include the strategic development and operational delivery of Estates management services, Risk Management, Statutory Compliance, Resilience and Fire Risk Management.



NUH is included in the New Hospitals Programme for the development of a transformational modernisation of NUH’s hospitals from 2035.



The condition of the NUH estate and particularly primary infrastructure, distribution systems and building fabric is recognised as one of the most demanding in the NHS and will need careful stewardship until the New Hospitals Programme provides some of the investment necessary by way of a series of major business cases. This will require excellent governance and risk based methodologies for interim urgent investment. The post holder will define necessary engineering strategies for the current and future states and be the lead professional advisor for engineering and statutory compliance into the DoEF and Tomorrow’s NUH programme and all business case estate annexes.





Leading on the development of the annual strategic and operational plan for the Directorate’s estates services, ensuring it’s consistent with the aims and objectives of the Trust and safeguarding that the plans fully reflect the service needs of the Trust.



To foster a climate of innovation and improvement for all services in EFM.



Provide inspirational leadership in the Directorate to ensure all staff are engaged and motivated to provide safe and effective services. Make provision for succession planning and development to support others to develop.



Cultivate a culture that promotes openness where people have the confidence to speak up and communication mechanisms operate effectively and optimally in the Directorate.



To lead on policy and procedural changes within Estates and Facilities.



Lead on modernisation/transformational projects including service re-design and any associated workforce change requirements.



To be accountable and responsible for Estates and Facilities information systems, such as IM&T, together with knowledge of building and engineering information systems.
