Erewash Borough Council is seizing the opportunities presented by the Renters’ Rights Act. We are growing the team to work with residents, landlords and other organisations to make Erewash’s homes healthier and safer.
If you are passionate about improving people’s health and wellbeing and your first priority is the resident before the building then this is your chance to join a team that is committed to tackling some of the roots of poor physical and mental health by working with residents and improving homes.
You will take a leading role in improving residents’ homes and communities to help them live in a safe, sustainable home that works for them. This includes investigating complaints, inspecting houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), licensing those that need it and taking enforcement action.
You will need:
• Experience of regulatory housing enforcement (including HMO licensing), inspection, preparing statutory notices and schedules of work;
• Practical experience of identifying and tackling hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and enforcement in line with the Housing Act 2004;
• A Certificate of Competence in applying the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS);
• An Honours Degree (2:2 or above) in Building and Construction/Construction Management, Surveying or equivalent qualification or experience or Higher National Diploma and three years experience or a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner (holding CIEH Chartered status) (CenvH) with housing experience.
You will need to travel within the local area for which you will receive a casual car user allowance.
What do we offer?
• Generous annual leave package – 29 days annual leave (rising to 33 days after 5 years’ service) plus 8 bank holidays a year
• Casual car user allowance
• Free workplace car parking within the Borough
• Opportunities for training, learning and continuous professional development
• Family friendly flexible and hybrid working policies available
• Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) plus access to a salary sacrifice scheme for added voluntary pension contributions
• Discounted leisure membership with the Fit for Work scheme
• Access to the VIVUP employee benefits discount and salary sacrifice scheme
