About Our Client
Our client's Community Academy is a member of their family of schools.
The Academy is a co-educational 11 - 16 secondary school in Portslade, Brighton and Hove with approximately 1000 students on roll. Purpose of the Role
To provide support for students with special education and disability needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs.
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the Teacher.
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
- Adapt ormodifymaterials and resources to ensure full access toa broad and balanced curriculum.
- Support the students as part of a planned inclusion programme and provide intervention strategies and programmes asrequested.
- Deliver intervention and support strategies for specific students as directed by the Teacher.
- Provide feedback to students in relation to progress,achievementand attainment under guidance of the Teacher.
- Assistwith the development and implementation of Educational Health Care Plans / Behaviour Plans.
- Create andmaintaina purposeful,orderlyand supportive environment,in accordance withlesson plans andassistwith the display of students' work.
- Provide detailed and regular feedback to Teachers on student's achievement,progressand issues in a suitable format.
- Provide advice and support toTeachers and other support staff as the most effective methods of support for students with learning needs.
- Liaise with the complex needs service as requested to receive anddisseminateadvice given to effectively support the students across curriculum areas.
- Monitor students' responses to learning activities and take responsibility for accurately recordingachievement / progress and reviewing records and systems as directed.
- Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents inline with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- Liaise sensitively and effectively with parent / Carer(s) andparticipatein feedback with parent / Carer(s)under the Teacher's supervision.
- Assist the SENDCO in the development,monitoringand reviewing of the students EHCP.
- Support the Teacher by contributing to the delivery of local and national learning strategies and recording achievement, progress and providing feedback to the Teacher.
- Attend specific training and meetings as and whenrequiredor requested by the SENDCO.
- Provide clerical / admin support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, money, administer coursework, invigilation of routine tests and examinations asrequired.
- Undertake structured and agreed learning activities / teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to student responses.
- Undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, reading strategies, recording achievement andprogress,and feeding back to the Teacher.
- Prepare,maintainand use equipment / resourcesrequiredto meet the lesson plans / relevant learning activity andassiststudents in their use.
- Be aware of and support differences and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities asrequiredand take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the Teacher.
- Participate in supervisorydutiesin accordance withthe duty rota schedules to support the culture within the organisation.
