The postholder will work in Dr Knuepfer’s group, whose team explores molecular mechanisms of red blood cell invasion by malaria- and babesiosis-causing parasites.
This collaborative Wellcome Trust-funded research post will explore the molecular and temporal mechanics of the red blood cell invasion process by Plasmodium parasites. Using comparative biology approaches, this project will analyse the functional conservation of specific invasion molecules between two related human-infecting Plasmodium species for a detailed molecular understanding of this crucial process for parasite proliferation and transmission.
If you hold a PhD and have a background in molecular parasitology, including in vitro cell culture, generating transgenics, using real-time microscopy and protein biochemistry approaches, and are excited to work on an innovative research project seeking to advance our understanding of molecular interactions between Plasmodium parasites and host cells, then please apply online. As part of the online application, you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement detailing your previous research experience and motivation for your application.
This full-time, fixed-term appointment is available for 4 years in the first instance. This position is available from February 2026.
For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Ellen Knuepfer (eknuepfer@rvc.ac.uk).
