Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.
A little about myself:
I am a young person living with my family in Swansea. I am diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, and I am non‑verbal, so I rely on consistent support from those around me to meet my daily care needs.
I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially going for long walks in open, calm spaces such as parks, beaches, and quiet pathways. When out in the community, I like to link arms with my carer for reassurance. Sudden loud noises, for example, motorbikes or heavy traffic can startle me, so I benefit from a calm, patient approach when this happens.
Busy or crowded environments can be overwhelming, so I use ear defenders to help me feel more comfortable. I need prompting and support to use the toilet, and I require access to disabled facilities. Hand dryers can be frightening for me, so gentle planning around this is important. At home, I love gaming and enjoy spending time on my iPad, especially playing puzzle and problem‑solving games.
Male / female preferred.
Hours of work
6 hours a week during term time.
8 hours a week during school holidays.
Rate of pay.
£13.13
Essential:
I need you to:
• Have a good awareness and understanding of neurodivergence, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
• Support me in crowded or loud environments by calmly guiding me to a quieter, safer space when needed.
•Have an understanding that I may need extra processing time, especially when crossing busy roads, and the ability to offer gentle reminders to help me stay safe.
• Be emotionally attuned, with the capacity to provide consistent, calm, and reassuring support during moments of overwhelm or distress.
• When I am out in the community, I like to link arms with the person supporting me, as this helps me feel safe and grounded.
• I do not like to double back on myself during walks. If something has been forgotten at home for example, my drink I will not want to return for it. In these situations, it’s important to continue walking and contact my parents for guidance.
• My behaviour is usually very manageable, but there may be times when it escalates without an obvious trigger. In these moments, distraction and redirection work well for me. For example, if I am at home, suggesting a walk can help me reset and feel calmer.
Desirable:
I would prefer if:
• You can build trust through empathy, patience, and genuine connection.
• You understand the importance of consistency and approaches support with kindness and respect.
I’d like support with:
• Getting out and about in the community, visiting places that match my interests like open spaces such as walking through a park or beach.
• Support at home to engage in activities I enjoy, such as gaming or puzzles.
• Someone who can help me feel safe, calm, and reassured in new, busy, or unpredictable situations.
• Opportunities to develop independence outside of my family and school, as I currently have limited social interaction beyond these settings.
I will need my PA to:
Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Be confident, mature and have patience.
Be dependable and arrive on time and communicate if there is an issue.
Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
Be adaptable and flexible.
Be supportive but not take over.
Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.
Concerning the position
A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
