Thorn Baker are looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our well-established manufacturing client in Nottingham. You'll be part of a small, hands-on team responsible for keeping the site running smoothly.
Position Overview
The Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) plays a key role in ensuring all machinery, equipment, and facilities operate safely and efficiently within the manufacturing facility. The role focuses on minimizing downtime, maintaining high equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production operations.
While the position is mechanically focused, a working knowledge of basic electrical systems is required to support effective fault diagnosis and repair.
Pay & Benefits:
• Starting Salary between £40,000 - £45,000 per annum
• Working Monday - Friday 7:00am - 16:00pm however you must be flexible on shift timings

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, perform, and document scheduled mechanical maintenance on production machinery, tools, and plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical faults (bearings, belts, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, drives, etc.) and assist with basic electrical faults where required.
• Support the installation, setup, and commissioning of new or refurbished machinery, ensuring all work meets safety and operational standards.
• Follow and promote all site safety procedures, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems. Ensure maintenance activities comply with statutory and company requirements.
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Requirements:
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and basic electrical drawings.
• Experience with CNC machinery, saws, edge banders, dust extraction systems, and conveyors.
• Good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Commitment to health & safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Proven experience in a manufacturing or production maintenance environment.
• Basic electrical training or qualification preferred (e.g. 18th Edition or equivalent awareness).
