Your new company


Hays Senior Finance are working exclusively with a manufacturing company based in Cannock who are seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to support their Finance team with accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful financial insights. This role works across the business - from Sales to Production - and plays a key part in financial planning, analysis, and month‑end processes.

Your new role


This is a highly varied role that gives you hands‑on involvement across multiple areas of the finance team, detailed below.


Financial Operations & Control

  • Oversee day‑to‑day finance activity, ensuring accurate processing across billing, accounts payable/receivable, and the general ledger.
  • Lead the production of monthly financial results, providing clear, timely reporting for leadership.
  • Support the smooth running of month‑end and year‑end activities, making sure deadlines and compliance standards are met.
  • Keep financial processes, policies, and data systems up to date so the wider team has reliable information to work with.

Analysis & Insight

  • Review customer and product profitability to highlight trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare cost analyses for new customer proposals and upcoming product lines.
  • Monitor stock levels and generate actionable reports to support operational decision‑making.
  • Deliver weekly business performance updates and bring analytical insight to internal meetings.

Operational & Team Support

  • Handle routine finance tasks such as supplier payment runs, credit notes, and customer account checks.
  • Manage information related to incoming shipments and ensure it is accurately reflected in financial records.
  • Step in to support key Finance functions during peak periods, holidays, or unexpected absences to maintain continuity.


What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will need solid hands‑on experience across core accounting functions, including managing daily finance operations, supporting month‑end and year‑end cycles, and preparing accurate financial reports. You should have worked on analysing customer and product profitability. Good data skills-particularly in Excel and accounting systems-are essential, along with experience supporting operational finance tasks such as payment runs, stock reporting, and cross‑functional collaboration.
