Clinical Nurse Specialist – Dermatology

The Dermatology Nursing Team at Barnet and Chase Farm is seeking to recruit a dynamic and highly motivated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our friendly and established service. Multidisciplinary team working is central to the role, and you will work closely with the existing CNS team and the wider medical team.

If you are an experienced Dermatology nurse looking for the next step in your career, this role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your specialist skills, lead on nurse‑led services, and make a meaningful impact on patient care within a supportive and forward‑thinking team.

The ideal candidate will already be working at Band 6 level and will demonstrate a high level of knowledge and expertise within dermatology. Previous dermatology experience is essential, as the post holder will be expected to deliver a range of nurse‑led clinics, including:

· Phototherapy

· Intralesional injections for keloid and alopecia

· Patch testing

· Systemic drug monitoring

As a CNS, you will also be responsible for assessing the psychological impact of skin disease using recognised models and scoring tools. A key aspect of the role involves educating patients and their families to support effective self‑management of their condition. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are therefore essential to deliver this with sensitivity and confidence.

Deliver high‑quality patient education, particularly for those undergoing phototherapy and other dermatology nurse‑led treatments.

Demonstrate a willingness to work across sites, supporting phototherapy services and additional nurse‑led clinics as required.

Remain flexible and adaptable in response to service needs, including changes in clinic demand or treatment pathways.

Work safely and effectively under pressure, maintaining high standards of care within a busy dermatology service.

Independently manage a cohort of patients, including those receiving phototherapy, intralesional injections, patch testing, and other specialist treatments.

Prioritise workload efficiently and maintain excellent organisational skills to support smooth running of phototherapy and nurse‑led clinics.

Stay up to date with current evidence, guidelines, and professional development, ensuring safe and effective delivery of phototherapy and other treatments.

Act as a mentor and role model for junior staff, supporting their development in core dermatology skills.

Provide education, supervision, and support for nursing students, contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Work within professional scope of practice, seeking senior or specialist input when required to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, across sites and with affiliated hospitals, to ensure continuity and high‑quality delivery of phototherapy and related services.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s biggest and most innovative trusts. Across three main hospitals, our dedicated army of staff care for over 1.6million patients, treat more than 200,000 in A&E, deliver over 8,000 babies and carry out more than 17million tests.

Our size, scale and influence offer you unrivalled career opportunities and a forward-thinking approach to working that works around your lifestyle. From flexible hours and generous benefits, to next level training, we make it easier to take your career to the top
