Applications are invited for a SpR grade doctor to be embedded within a well-established, innovativeDepartment of Ambulatory Care. The applicant would be one of a team of resident doctors in a well-resourced unit lead by a team of rotating consultants and a large experienced multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, forward-thinking trainee who wishes to develop core clinical skills in ambulatory care in one of the leading ambulatory care units in the country.

The post is aimed at ST3 and above level doctors and can be performed Out of Programme or recognised as training (contingent on Deanery approval).

Clinical Work will include Ambulatory experience mainly in Rowan Ambulatory Unit, and subject to discussion with supervisor may involve activity in other acute and ambulatory medicine settings in the Trust. This will include working shift patterns to support the departments opening hours between 8am-7pm, Monday through Friday. There may be a small weekend ward cover commitment, which can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. The clinical role gives a great opportunity to work with a wide range of excellent consultants with special skills in ambulatory care. Also, will allow to the candidate to collaborate and familiarise with pathways team such as Acute hospital at home.

We would also provide SDT time to the candidate to develop leadership skills and to become involved

The Horton is a District General Hospital in Banbury with an Emergency Dept., admitting a largely unselected medical take. It has a 10-bedded CCU that provides level 2 care to patients. This includes non-invasive ventilation, inotropic support and close nursing monitoring. The planned medical structure for the CCU will be a designated ward team looking after these patients under the supervision of rotating respiratory and acute medicine consultants.

The wards consist of 2 large medical wards (approx. 28-30 beds each) and an EAU (Emergency Assessment Unit) together with a co-located short stay ward. Each ward has a team, typically consisting of a Consultant, SpR, SHO and house officer and the team is responsible for all of the patients on that ward.

The Medical Take is unselected acute medical admissions; there are around 20-30/day. The consultant on-call is responsible for the full 24hr period encompassing 3 hot rounds during the day (late morning, late afternoon and evening) and a follow up round in the morning for the overnight admissions. There is a 9am handover to the wards and the next team.
