We are seeking a passionate and creative Music Teacher who is:

A programme of support and training will be provided to develop your understanding and skills for special educational needs within a supportive environment.Applicants invited to interview will also be observed working with a class to demonstrate interaction, engagement and lesson structure.
Purpose of JobTo teach music to students within the school and undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned by senior leadership.
General Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the school's philosophy, aims and policies effectively to staff, students and external partners.
  • Teach students according to their individual needs, including planning and delivering a differentiated curriculum.
  • Supervise and guide classroom assistants working with your class or group.
  • Meet planning, assessment and reporting deadlines.
  • Oversee the use and storage of teaching materials and equipment.
  • Maintain care, control and discipline in line with school policies.
  • Contribute to meetings, discussions and systems that support whole‑school coordination.
  • Promote equal opportunities and support inclusive practice, including outreach work where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with parents/carers to support student progress.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Liaise effectively with external professionals involved with students.
  • Promote positive relationships with the local community.

Specific Music Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop extra‑curricular music provision, including bands, choirs and ensembles.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the arts calendar and music curriculum.
  • Organise and rehearse students for performances, concerts, assemblies and community events.
  • Coordinate peripatetic and instrumental music teachers to ensure high‑quality provision.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of music technology and adaptive technology (e.g., GarageBand, Ableton, and related software).
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging lessons that develop creativity, performance, composition and listening skills across a wide range of abilities.
  • Support students working towards accredited music courses, awards or qualifications where appropriate.
  • Adapt musical activities and resources to meet sensory, physical and communication needs.
  • Support whole‑school music initiatives, themed days and creative projects linked to the wider curriculum.

Key Tasks

  • Monitor and report on student progress to parents/carers.
  • Liaise with staff across subject areas and departments.
  • Assess student achievement in line with college procedures and individual education plans.
  • Maintain records, attend meetings and liaise with support services and external agencies as required.
  • Complete attendance register for your class or group.
  • Participate in performance appraisal arrangements.
