SEN Behaviour Support Assistant – Severe & Complex Needs

Primary to Sixth Form
East London | Full-Time | Long-Term | Immediate Start
Up to £650 per week

Are you a psychology graduate or experienced SEN professional ready to support students with severe disabilities and complex behavioural needs?
Do you have hands-on experience working with pupils who require high levels of care, regulation, and behaviour support?
Are you trained in Team Teach or other recognised behaviour management and de-escalation techniques?

KPi Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEN provision in East London to recruit a highly resilient and committed SEN Behaviour Support Assistant. This role involves supporting pupils from Primary age through to Sixth Form, many of whom present with severe and multiple learning and physical disabilities alongside complex behaviour.

The Role – SEN Behaviour Support Assistant

You will work closely with pupils aged 5–18 who may present with:

Severe learning and physical disabilities
• Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD / SLD)
• Autism (ASC), ADHD, and PDA profiles
• SEMH and trauma-related behaviours
• High levels of dysregulation, distress, and crisis behaviour
• Communication and sensory processing needs

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with severe and complex needs
• Supporting pupils with behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing, and personal care where required
• Using Team Teach or other accredited behaviour management techniques safely and confidently
• Applying de-escalation strategies to support pupils during crisis situations
• Supporting communication, sensory integration, and daily routines
• Assisting with classroom engagement, transitions, and structured activities
• Implementing individual behaviour and support plans alongside teachers, SENCOs, and therapists
• Maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment

This is a high-impact, physically and emotionally demanding role, suited to individuals with proven SEN experience and strong resilience.

Person Specification

To be considered, you must:

• Hold a degree in Psychology or a related field (e.g. Mental Health, Education, Criminology, Sociology)
• Have significant experience supporting pupils with severe disabilities and complex SEN
• Be Team Teach trained or trained in an equivalent recognised behaviour management approach
• Have proven experience using de-escalation techniques
• Have experience working in a specialist SEN school, PRU, SEMH provision, alternative provision, or care setting
• Demonstrate high levels of emotional resilience, patience, and professionalism

Desirable:

• Experience with PMLD / SLD
• Trauma-informed practice
• Knowledge of sensory integration and communication strategies
• Strong safeguarding awareness
