Neway is looking for a School Cook/Catering Assistant to join our client based with Thurrock Council.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 10:30 to 2 (ongoing contract) Term Time
Enhanced DBS Required and Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant (Cook 1) to join our School Catering Service. This is a vital role supporting the smooth running of the school kitchen, ensuring pupils and staff receive a high‑quality, nutritious meal service each day.
You will work as part of a friendly team, helping to prepare and serve food, maintain excellent hygiene standards, and contribute to a positive dining experience for all.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out general kitchen duties including food preparation, serving meals, setting up, clearing away, and cleaning.
Sell meals, snacks, and beverages as required.
Support the Head of Kitchen in maintaining contract and service standards.
Follow all Health & Safety and Food Hygiene procedures.
Promote and uphold the Council’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity principles.
Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the role as directed by the Head of Kitchen or Contract Manager.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Able to carry out clearing, washing up, and general kitchen tasks under direction.
Confident in serving food in line with established guidelines.
Committed to maintaining professional standards and statutory requirements.
Experienced in food preparation and service (essential).
A team player with good communication skills.
Self‑motivated, reliable, and able to work well under pressure.
Understanding of Equal Opportunities and Diversity principles.
Holding a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and Enhanced DBS
