Job Purpose:
The Deputy Care Manager will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the care home, ensuring high standards of care, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective leadership of staff. The role involves deputising in the Manager’s absence and promoting a positive, person-centred care culture.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Registered Manager in managing daily operations of the care home
Act as Manager in the absence of the Registered Manager
Supervise, mentor, and support care staff
Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, and performance reviews
Assist with recruitment, induction, and training of staff
Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive working environment
Care Quality & Compliance
Ensure high-quality, person-centred care is delivered at all times
Maintain compliance with CQC regulations and care standards
Participate in audits, inspections, and action planning
Support safeguarding procedures and incident reporting
Ensure care plans and risk assessments are updated regularly
Clinical & Care Duties
Support residents with complex care needs
Administer medication safely (if trained/qualified)
Monitor residents’ health and wellbeing
Liaise with healthcare professionals (GPs, nurses, social workers)
Respond appropriately to emergencies
Administration & Documentation
Maintain accurate care records and reports
Support rota planning and staffing levels
Assist with budgeting and stock control
Handle complaints professionally and efficiently
Family & Professional Communication
Build positive relationships with residents and families
Attend care reviews and multidisciplinary meetings
Act as a point of contact for concerns or queries
Skills & Experience Required
NVQ Level 3 n Health & Social Care
Previous experience in a senior care role (Senior Carer / Team Leader)
Strong leadership and organisational skills
Knowledge of CQC regulations and safeguarding
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively
Compassionate, professional, and reliable
Desirable
Experience supporting inspections
Medication administration qualification
Dementia care experience
First Aid & Safeguarding training
