PSS in a nutshell
At PSS, we’ve got an important job to do; and that’s to help people make the most of their lives. Whether you’re working directly with the people who use our services, or behind the scenes in one of our offices, every day you’ll be helping to make other people feel happier, healthier and more supported.
We’re a social enterprise or, as we like to call it – a ‘business with a heart’. This means that all the money we make goes back into finding new ways to help people. Our aim is simple; we want to help people change their lives for the better – no matter what life throws at them. We’ve got offices across Merseyside, Wales, Manchester, Lincolnshire and the Midlands, where we’re making our stamp.
Shared Lives is a bit like foster care, but the big difference is that it’s for adults who want their own freedom and independence. Shared Lives carers empower people to be who they want to be and do what they want to do caring for someone who lives with them or spends their days with them. There’s lots of different types of people using Shared Lives; It could be someone with a learning disability, mental health needs or people moving on from a different type of care. Our big-hearted Shared Lives team work very hard indeed to make sure people are well matched, that both carers and people using the service feel supported and – most of all – that everyone is safe and happy.
What you’ll do as Shared Lives team manager?
As Shared Lives team manager in Norfolk and Suffolk you’ll have an important job to do supporting the Service Manager in ensuring our service continues to thrive for the benefit of the people we support.
You’ll need to have a positive, can-do attitude, a qualification and experience in health and social care and the flexibility to promote our service, help our team be great and make sure our service provision is awesome. You will also need to have a driving license and use of a vehicle as the role involves regular travelling. What you’ll do:
You’ll look after the day to day smooth sailing of Shared Lives
Planning, prioritising and organising the team to keep the good ship PSS sailing to success. You’ll understand our big strategic goals, plan with your team and report to our head of service.
People are our passion. You’ll be committed to giving the people we support a voice and ensuring their needs and experiences shape our service.
We want to be the very best. As a manager together with others you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the service operates in line with CQC frameworks, internal and external quality frameworks and all our PSS policies and procedures. We aspire to receive outstanding CQC reports.
Our teams are our pride and joy. You’ll assist the Service Manager in recruiting the very best people around – people who match our values of being big-hearted, genuine, open-minded, determined and professional.
You’ll dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s ensuring that all our most important individual outcomes are documented and everything’s done in the right way for the people who matter most.
Health and safety will be a top priority. We’ll need your support in getting all those important boxes ticked.
You’ll be a real people person
You’ll make sure our people are great at what they do, managing staff, volunteers and students and carrying out their performance-related reviews.
You’ll work to make sure that there are positive and collaborative working relationships between your team and all the PSS services and departments.
Helping us to keep on growing
The people we support are the people that matter the most. You’ll have regular chin-wags with these people and your team to look for ideas about developing the service and shaping it around them.
We want to make sure our existing services are sustainable and we want to grow our services as well. You’ll contribute to this by continually reviewing and developing the service, working with the Service Manager, so that it delivers excellent outcomes and best value for our commissioners.
You’ll be initiating, building and maintaining positive working relationships with commissioners and other agencies to help us identify and deliver new business opportunities and potential partnerships.
A little razzamatazz won’t go amiss since you’ll sometimes be required to promote our services and the great work we do at events and in the media.
From time to time we submit tenders for new contracts so you will have a role to play in providing operational information when needed to support our business development and Innovation team when they are bidding for new work.
Keeping an eye on the pennies
You’ll support the Service Manager with the service budget working with the finance team to provide monitoring reports for the leadership team on a monthly basis.
You’ll be proactive in reviewing the service regularly to make sure that our ways of doing things are cost-effective to provide the best value for money.
