A large public sector organisation is embarking on a major period of organisational transformation and is in the process of establishing and embedding a new PMO. To support this critical phase, they are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Transformation Programme / Programme Lead to act as the Director of PMO's second‑in‑command and provide senior leadership across a complex transformation portfolio.
The Role
This is a senior, strategically important position responsible for leading a multi‑disciplinary transformation programme through to successful delivery. You will coordinate programme design, execution and governance, ensuring it aligns with organisational priorities and delivers tangible outcomes.Working closely with the Director of PMO, executive sponsors, and cross‑directorate transformation leads, you will help drive a step‑change in the organisation's operating model-embedding improved ways of working across finance, data, operations, corporate services, and wider support functions.This role offers the opportunity to shape a major transformation agenda within a high‑profile public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of the organisation's transformation programme, driving it to a successful conclusion.
- Work closely with the Director of PMO, SROs, sponsors, and workstream leads to accelerate progress across phase two of the transformation.
- Establish and manage programme governance, budgets, resources, scope and risk, ensuring the programme is set up effectively to deliver.
- Identify and manage interdependencies across workstreams, ensuring alignment and proactive risk mitigation.
- Oversee programme performance reporting, ensuring alignment with the wider PMO's single strategic view.
- Act as a "critical friend" to workstream owners-supporting prioritisation, collaboration, and effective delivery.
Deliverables
- Review and redefine governance, scope, resources, schedule and budget for phase two of the transformation programme.
- Establish programme dependencies and a coherent roadmap.
- Coordinate activity across workstreams, ensuring resources are deployed effectively.
- Ensure robust reporting, assurance and oversight mechanisms are in place.
- Drive cultural and operational alignment across internal stakeholders.
About You
- Significant experience leading large, complex, multi‑disciplinary transformation programmes within a complex organisation.
- Strong background in finance, data, operations, and/or corporate services transformation.
- Proven ability to apply structured programme and project management methodologies.
- Experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams and working in a matrix environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management, with credibility at senior and executive levels.
- Public sector experience is highly desirable.
