The role - Laboratory Assistant
You will have an integral role in Merck's commitment to ensuring a positive difference is made to millions of peoples lives through your role as a Lab Assistant, working as part of the wider lab and quality function. You will have a varied, challenging and rewarding role where you will gain valuable experience within a global life sciences company.
Duties will include:
- Clean all laboratory glassware to required standards in accordance with current procedures
- Ensures adequate stocks available of clean lab coats, safety glasses and basic lab supplies and consumables by way of the weekly stock requisition and Kanban systems
- Logs and locates finished product retention samples on a daily basis
- Performs routine discard of expired retention samples with maintenance of related SAP records
- Performs weekly inspections and cleaning of controlled temperature storage units
- Coordinates supply of inhouse consumables with the appropriate Operations personnel, including water sampling hoses, bottles, volumetric flasks and septum caps
- Conducts hydration of dry powder media test samples in accordance with inspection plan or related procedure
- Coordinates sending of samples for external analysis and monitors return of test results
- Files completed test records as required
- Actively participates in the EHS responsibilities for all functions performed within QC.
- Supports the administration of the document archive system to ensure all records are traceable and easily retrievable
The successful candidate:
- Minimum of three National 5 qualifications at grade B or above, including English, Maths, and a Science.
- Ability to read and follow verbal and written instruction
- Organisational skills
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of MS Office
This role is offered on a temporary ongoing basis for an initial 6 month period, working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm, 37.5 hours per week.
