This is a fixed term / secondment (internal) vacancy to cover Maternity Leave.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and experienced Scrub Theatre Practitioner Team Leader who can scrub for Cataract Surgery within the Cataract suite at the Royal Shrewsbury hospital.

In this role, you will lead and coordinate the theatre team to ensure smooth day-to-day theatre operations and effective theatre functioning and efficiency, while implementing effective communication and a positive working environment. Expectations to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality are a priority.

You will also support the training and development of team members, helping to maintain high professional standards in line with our department policies and speciality requirements. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to delivering excellent patient care. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work to the highest standards of evidence-based practice. The Post Holder must act as an expert resource for all clinical staff and students and must effectively participate in the supervision, training, and support of learners in Theatre.

The post holder will participate as an integral member of the theatre team giving leadership and guidance to other staff, maintaining high standards of practice and care. The post holder must work alongside our departments Theatre management team in supporting development, and implementing positive change, within our Theatre department.


• · The Theatre Team Leader is responsible for supporting the safe and effective running of the theatre each day, ensuring high standards of patient care.

· The role provides clinical leadership within the speciality, offering guidance and expertise to the wider team.

· It includes overseeing staffing, resources, and theatre activity to maintain an efficient and well‑organised service.

· The post holder upholds Trust policies, infection control standards, and professional guidelines at all times.

· They contribute to staff development through supervision, training, and ongoing professional support.

· The role also supports service improvement, helping to maintain a high‑quality, patient‑focused theatre environment.

Each person, patient or visitor, visiting Ward 20 will be met with courtesy and respect. The individual will be treated confidentially with dignity maintained at all times.

Each patient will be allowed maximum consultation time with further help and information offered as necessary. In applying our philosophy of care we aim to deliver a high standard of care to all patients within the department ensuring that each person leaves understanding the information needed to make an informed decision regarding their care and that all their needs are met.
