Summary


This is an MLA role to assist the Blood Transfusion lead with quality issues around the issuing, and monitoring of use, of blood to the hospital wards. It requires the tracking of Blood Tags that have accompanied blood products issued by the department. It may require visits to wards to track down missing tags and checking patient notes.

The role involves the compilation of statistics concerning the above for regulation purposes.

The role may include other duties as directed by the Blood Transfusion lead. Full training will be given to the successful candidate.

The role involves effective communication with colleagues across the Haematology and Blood Transfusion teams, as well as with wider hospital staff. It requires following established procedures, protocols and directives to ensure the delivery of a high‑quality laboratory service. The post holder is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance within the Blood Transfusion laboratory and undertaking all necessary pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical tasks.

Duties also include adhering to workplace risk assessments and COSHH requirements, and ensuring that any accidents, incidents, near misses or potential hazards are reported in line with departmental and Trust risk‑event procedures.
