Post: SEND Engagement/De-Escalation Mentor
Hours: 32.50, Monday to Friday (excluding half hour lunch), term time only
Contract Type: Permanent
Start Date: As soon as possible

Would you like to make a difference to the lives of young people?

Highfields College is seeking a dedicated and resilient Scale 5 Mentor to join our specialist team. This role is designed for a professional who is passionate about championing emotional well-being and mental health. Initially, you will focus on a specific cohort of students with complex SEMH and SEND needs.

You may also work day-to-day as a pastoral mentor to de-escalate high-agitation and disengagement amongst our wider cohort, using specialist techniques to help students rediscover their potential. While your initial focus is on specific SEND students, you must be an adaptable educator willing to be deployed across different departments or key stages as our student cohorts evolve.

Everyone at Highfields believes in the fundamental worth of each student. Every single student is provided with a wide variety of opportunities to develop academically whilst being nurtured in terms of their personal development (self-awareness & social skills, citizenship & character). This takes place in a safe and upbeat environment involving small groups and well-trained, experienced staff.

A key feature, for successful candidates, is that you can have empathy with students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and are able to work positively in a challenging and sometimes demanding environment.

Completed forms should be submitted via email address: susan.ryan@highfieldscollege.org.uk

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Closing Date: Thursday 5 February 2026
