An exciting opportunity has arisen for aBand 5 Staff Nurseto join our dynamic and expanding team on Whitbread Ward at Bedford Hospital.
Whitbread Ward plays a vital role in patient flow, receiving individuals from ED and AAU for further assessment, investigations, and treatment. We care for a wide variety of patients across multiple specialities including Medical, Surgical, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Mental Health, and more.
With 27 beds and a high patient turnover, this is a fast‑paced environment where nurses must be alert, organised, and able to prioritise effectively. Working as part of a supportive team, you will deliver high‑quality care and contribute to the smooth running of the ward.

The post holder will work as an effective team member by taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care provided to patients on the ward.
The post holder will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan for all patients. This streamlined approach will aid with the flow of patients through the wider hospital. Provide a coordinated and efficient service for the patient to ensure that they receive all assessments, investigations and results in a timely manner to enable same day discharge. Proving a positive patient experience is a key component of your job role.
Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a passion for Acute Medicine.
You will need to be an excellent communicator, organizer, creative thinker, problem solver, team player and be willing to deal with complex and difficult situations and competing demands.

Provide a high standard of evidence based care to patients in line with hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate record keeping consistent with legislation, policies and procedures in line with NMC Code of Conduct.
Take responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance and maintain own portfolio in line with knowledge, skill framework.
Ensure the information recorded on Trust clinical systems are accurately reflected on the ExtraMed bed management system for day-case patients if applicable to ward service requirements.
Answer the telephone take referrals and deals with enquiries from hospital staff and the public concerning admission, transfer, discharge and review appointments of patients.
Communicate in an efficient and effective manner with all staff, patients, visitors and external sources, identifying any problems and dealing with them in a tactful manner.
