We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of painters at the , 100th Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall , United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of painting, including surface preparation, blending and matching paints, and coating of various surfaces requiring fine finishes and decorative effects.
You will prepare various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats.
You will also mix, thin, blend, match, tint, and tone coating materials as well as add pigment and/or thinners to gauge the change of color tone and drying properties. You will also mix stains, epoxies, enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, plastic paints, bituminous paints, and other surface coating materials.
The role involves applying coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other means of application and utilizing safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of accepted surface preparation and coating methods and techniques including special finishing techniques; and paints and thinning additives.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of current Federal, state, local, and Air Force regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.
4. Skill in reading and applying directions that relate to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and precoating agents; and tinting, toning, matching, and blending coating materials.
5. Skill in determining the methods, techniques, devices, and materials best suited to obtain the surface condition and finish required.
6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
2. Shift work may be required.
3. Emergency overtime may be required, but is not guaranteed.
4. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, UK valid driver's license is required for the position.
5. May be required to train and/or guide lower graded employees.
6. May be required to assist other workers in various crafts.
7. Employee must successfully obtain and maintain any necessary occupational related training/certificates in accordance with US and UK industry standards, and complete all management directed training.
8. Pre-Appointment physical/health screening is required. Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The painter prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. The work may be at extreme heights (such as water towers or tall buildings). This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds and over.
9. Exposure to toxic paints, chemicals, or other hazards may require occupational health examinations.
10. Employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance required for this position.
11. May be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
12. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
13. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
