Summary

The Role In line with the agreed practice timetable, the post holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred care within a primary care setting. Duties will include face-to-face surgery consultations, telephone and online consultations, home visits (low volume), responding to clinical queries, reviewing and signing repeat prescriptions, and completing administrative work efficiently. The post holder will make professional, autonomous clinical decisions for patients presenting with both diagnosed and undifferentiated conditions, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals. This includes assessing healthcare needs, screening for disease risk factors, developing and implementing care plans in partnership with patients, and providing appropriate health education and counselling. The role also involves making referrals to other services when appropriate, maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records, contributing to audit activity, and prescribing in line with the practice formulary or generically where clinically appropriate. Overall, the post holder will be expected to undertake the full range of duties and responsibilities normally associated with a GP working in primary care. Governance, Quality & Professional Development The post holder will work in accordance with all practice policies and procedures, including those relating to prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control. A commitment to lifelong learning, audit, and evidence-based practice is essential. The role includes participation in appraisal, audit, quality improvement activity, and training events organised by the practice or external agencies, as well as contributing to the development and effective use of electronic patient records.
