We are currently seeking a highly skilled Fire Risk Assessor to join our team and support the Council in meeting its statutory obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in improving fire safety outcomes across our residential portfolio, including some of our most complex and high-risk buildings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake fire risk assessments for complex and non-complex residential buildings, including High-Risk Buildings (HRBs)
  • Provide competent fire safety advice to senior managers, housing teams, and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and support providers to ensure fire risks are effectively assessed and managed
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of fire safety management across the Council's residential portfolio

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 5 or higher qualification in fire safety or fire safety engineering from a recognised fire sector professional body
  • Graduate-level (or higher) membership of a recognised fire or construction professional body
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience conducting fire risk assessments in the social housing sector, including complex buildings
  • Strong understanding of building construction methods and fire safety legislation
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Additional Information:

  • This is a hybrid role, combining regular site visits with office-based or home working
  • You will be part of a supportive team committed to improving safety outcomes for residents and staff
  • The role aligns with the competency framework outlined in BS 8674:2025, supporting the Council's commitment to professional standards and regulatory compliance
  • You will be expected to demonstrate competence appropriate to the complexity of buildings assessed, in line with national guidance and best practice

Duration: Now until March 2026 (Potential to extend)

Day Rate: £311
