Summary
This is a direct permanent replacement for an established post which forms part of the Band 6 OT neurology rotation. The B6 Specialist Occupational Therapist role is integral to the delivery of specialist neuroscience/ neurorehabilitation services across several locations including St George’s main hospital site, Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton, and the Community Neurorehabilitation team in Wandsworth.
This post offers a unique experience of working across two clinical teams: the Regional Neurology Unit and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) acute/rehabilitation service. The service provides early level 1 neuro rehabilitation to 6 inpatients as well as Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions on the regional neurology unit (22 beds) and acute TBI beds (4 beds). The service forms part of the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre.
Patients present with a with a range of (and often complex) psycho-social, physical, cognitive and emotional problems including terminal illness. The post holder works closely together with an established MDT, providing OT interventions which include but are not exclusive to: cognitive and perceptual assessment and treatment (mobile patients with executive function difficulties); tone and spasticity assessment and management (including casting and splinting), specialist seating and complex discharge & rehabilitation planning.
The role includes offering advice and support to junior team members to manage their caseloads and clinically reason, complete timely referrals and facilitate discharge planning.
This role includes working rostered weekends within neurosciences.
Leadership/workforce management:
The post holder plays a supporting role in the monitoring of the clinical effectiveness of the service by reviewing recognised performance service metrics (SNNAP/ NHS-E / UKROC data set and local Therapies Scorecard Activity data).

Anopportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Band 6 Neuro rotation at St George’s Hospital. The rotation includes neurosurgery, neuro cardiac, neurology, stroke (HASU and ASU), level 1 and level 2 rehabilitation (both at St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton) and community services at St John’s Therapy Centre.
