Job Summary/ Statement
This is an exciting opportunity to work part time, 15 hours per week, ideally over two consecutive days, opposite to current band 7 OT, on a inpatient older adult rehabilitation unit .
We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to co-lead the OT provision on an inpatient rehabilitation ward. The post holder will ensure timely and specialist assessment, treatment, and discharge of older adult patients. Work closely with the current Band 7 OT who works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and B7 PT. Together you will help shape and develop the older adult rehabilitation service.
The role is based on the Trust’s 20 bedded, dementia friendly Beaconsfield East ward, which is consultant led. The established and diverse MDT consists of junior doctors, nurses, OTs, PTs, support workers, discharge coordinators and community colleagues. This is a unique inpatient older adult rehabilitation ward that has been specially designed with the help of a government grant to provide an environment tailored to meet the needs of older people with cognitive and physical impairments. The ward includes a sensory room, dining / activity space and sensory garden. We currently run a 5-day service, with plans of expanding into a 7-day service.
The main duties of the role include:
To utilise highly specialist Occupational Therapy clinical skills and knowledge to assess, treat and discharge patients admitted to hospital.
To ensure the effective day-to-day therapy provision on the ward, including ensuring adequate staff to meet service demands, providing in service training, and leading on service development projects.
Working collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to promote and deliver high quality patient care.
To provide cover, specialist knowledge and support to the wider therapy team as required, including working across wards and specialisms.
To actively participate in providing and receiving regular supervision and appraisal of supervisee(s), including annual Personal Development Review and rotational objectives.
To be a specialist resource of knowledge for health care professionals.
To provide expert advice, guidance and information to patients, carers, relatives, and other non-professionals.
To undertake delegated responsibilities to support the Therapy Lead in day-to-day service operation, evaluation, and development.
To lead on a therapy department service improvement project.
