An exciting opportunity has arisen within Northumbria Primary Care for an increase in our Band 5 Registered Senior Pharmacy Technician teams, supporting a group of GP practices within a neighbourhood footprint.

We have vacancies within neighbourhoods including, North Tyneside, Cramlington & Seaton Valley, Central Northumberland and West Northumberland. The successful candidates will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to process a wide range of medication related tasks.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be required to undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will need to be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.

To be eligible for this role you must have already completed your CPPE PCPEP qualification.

Main Duties would entail:
• Work alongside other staff and develop their skills to prioritise workload. May supervise medicines technicians, Pharmacy technicians, student pharmacy technicians and pre-registration pharmacists.
• Interpret prescriptions for drug problems such as drug dosage, form and administration. Considers legality, clarity and risk associated with prescribed medicines and prescriptions and make basic interventions to ensure medicines are safe for patients and be able to refer as appropriate to medicines management technician or pharmacist.
• Interpret basic medicine supply information and consider appropriate solutions ensure continuation of supply, referring as appropriate. Assess situations concerning the availability of prescribed medicines and refer non-standard prescriptions to relevant authority.
• Assist and coach practice staff in the collation and analysis of data for reviews/ audits as required improving medicines management within the practice.
• Support embedded systems to ensure governance and operational issues are reviewed, discussed weekly with the team and escalated as required.

• As Senior Pharmacy Technician, the post-holder will be responsible to the Practice Manager. The post holder will work autonomously in the day-to-day management of the team they manage.
• The Senior Pharmacy Technician will co- ordinate the CSU medicine hub activities to the extent necessary to ensure the development and maintenance of a high standard of patient care, sound teamwork and close co-operation with the clinical and managerial team.
• As Senior Pharmacy Technician the post holder will be on site at the medicine hub every day to deal with staffing issues, informal complaints, ensure the workforce are appropriately supported, trained and appraised
• The post holder will work under the management of the Clinical Pharmacy Service to deliver a comprehensive medicines management hub in a primary care setting to ensure a safe and efficient service is maintained, delivering a range of medicines management activities including medicines reconciliation and repeat prescription requests
• To liaise with pharmacy staff in all sectors and other healthcare professionals to ensure a patient orientated medicines management service is provided, conducting medicines reviews for patients identified by the wider multidisciplinary team or from other medicines management initiatives.
• To work closely with the Clinical Pharmacist to adopt a team approach to medicines
management, acting as a key member of the multidisciplinary team and the wider pharmacy team, providing medicines management advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
• To work with the Clinical Pharmacist to develop and undertake medicines management audits, to support discussion within the practice and agree subsequent actions.
